Liposuction

The popularity of liposuction (lipoplasty) is unmistakable as it removes unwanted fat from specific areas of the body which are prone to storing pockets of fat. At Gold Coast Plastic Surgery we commonly use liposuction to improve the contours of the body, including areas such as the neck, upper arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees and calves.

Whilst liposuction should never be treated as an alternative to a healthy weight-loss plan or exercise regime, it can deliver some dramatic results. Liposuction is best used to contour problem areas creating a more sculpted body.  It is not a weight loss procedure.

In traditional liposuction, a small tube (cannula) is used to mechanically break down fat as it is suctioned from the body. Small incisions are made in the body’s natural creases, where they can stay hidden. Dissolvable sutures are primarily used, and scarring is minimal.

Liposuction is performed as a day surgery procedure under general anaesthetic.  A compression garment is often worn for 6 weeks following surgery and most people are back to normal activity in a week.
