The big decision was made and you have been living with a fuller bustline with breast implants. What happens when these might need to be removed or replaced? Historically, this procedure was commonly performed to manage capsules (scar tissue around the implants). With improvements to surgical techniques and implants, the rate of problems caused by capsules has declined. The reasons for this surgery now are varied. Clients may be dissatisfied with the size, shape, texture, or positioning of the primary implant or wish to have them replaced due to the age of their implants. At Gold Coast Plastic Surgery, Dr. Doyle conducts a preliminary examination to advise you on the best course of action. This procedure may be subject to Medicare and Health Insurance rebates.
Breast implant removal/ replacement is performed under general anesthesia and usually takes an hour to complete. Often performed as a day stay in hospital.
As is the case with breast augmentation surgery patients may return to work within 2 to 3 weeks. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for 6 weeks.
