Dermal Filler Injectables
Dermal fillers help you to restore depleted volume and restore the healthy and natural curves of the face.
As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and thickness and the underlying structures in our face begin to break down and diminish. We lose healthy fat deposits which create fullness and curves and our faces begin to thin out.
This flattening of the face profile is completely natural and is typically first noticed in our lower face, cheeks and jawline. Over time this translates into more prominent nasolabial folds, down turning of the mouth edges, fine lines around the mouth and chin, and hollowing in our medial face. You may also notice lost volume underneath your eyes or around your neck and jawline which cause a hollowing effect of the entire face.
Fortunately, these common problems can be corrected with volumising facial fillers or dermal filler injectables. With strategically placed injections, fillers can replicate lost fat and bone structures to rejuvenate and restore a more youthful appearance. They also work to smooth the skin above the injection site, which results in a firmer and more hydrated complexion. They are most commonly used to create more definition of the cheekbones and chin as well as to add volume to the lips.
Dermal filler injections are incredibly versatile and can be used to:
- Volumise the lips
- Plump the cheeks
- Reshape the chin
- Reduce under-eye hollowing
- Reshape the nose
- Redefine the jaw
- Eliminate marionette lines
- Eliminate nasolabial folds
- Reduce temporal hollowing
- Fill fine lines
- Smooth deep creases
- Reduce the appearance of scars
- Reduce peri-oral lines (smoker lines)
What Are Dermal Fillers?
Volumising dermal fillers are natural gel-like substances that are injected into the skin to enhance and contour facial structures, restore volume loss, treat fine lines, promote hydration and improve the radiance of your complexion.
These facial fillers utilise various ingredients and come in different thicknesses and formulations that make them appropriate for different areas of the face. The active ingredient in dermal filler injectables attracts water to the treatment area which helps to hydrate the skin. They are a great option for those interested in adding volume to the lips, cheeks and chin and also those who would like to erase wrinkles around the face.
How Dermal Fillers Work
Revolumising filler is a soft injectable gel consisting of stabilised, non-animal hyaluronic acid – a sugar molecule that naturally occurs in the body. The function of this molecule is to bind water and act as a lubricant and shock absorber in the moveable parts of your body. It also works to transport nutrients and regulate the water balance within your skin. By boosting the quantity of this naturally occurring substance, fillers revitalise and add volume to the treated area instantly.
This gel is very tissue-friendly and closely resembles that which exists in the body.
Benefits of Dermal Filler Treatments
- Restore lost facial volume – injectable fillers replace lost facial volume and restore the natural curves of the face that have lessened with age.
- Natural volume restoration – achieve subtle and natural results that mimic your natural facial tissue.
- Accentuate the cheeks – create symmetry and fullness with injectables that aim to create ideal facial contours and curves.
- Redefine facial structure – fillers, when placed in the right spot, redefine the jawline or cheekbones which naturally deplete as we age.
- They’re safe and effective – our dermal filler injections are FDA approved and we use only high-quality, reputable brands.
- Results are immediate – results of facial fillers are noticeable immediately after your treatment.
Dermal Filler Before and After Images
The entire process of consultation to completion takes, on average, 45 minutes.
Before beginning treatment, your nurse at Gold Coast Plastic Surgery will consult you based on your goals and outcomes for your dermal filler treatment. Your nurse will provide advice on how best to treat your concern and will assess your facial structure to determine the best injectable techniques. Then, you will undergo a consultation with Dr Doyle who will provide instruction on whether to proceed based on numerous factors including risk.
All the available products will be explained to you in detail so you and your nurse can decide which product will help you achieve the best possible results. Please note that due to TGA guidelines, we are unable to advertise the brand names of dermal filler on our website. However, we stock the leading brands of all injectable fillers and are able to discuss these freely during your consultation.
During your injectable treatment, your nurse will strategically inject the dermal filler product into your treatment area to achieve balanced, symmetrical and natural results. You will be provided with aftercare instructions to follow for the next 48 hours and can ask any questions at any time during your appointment.
Injectable Fillers Frequently Asked Questions
Do dermal fillers hurt?
The injections may feel like a slight pinch as they enter the treatment area and you may feel pressure as the gel substance is injected. If you have a low pain tolerance or are concerned about the pain you might feel, you can ask your nurse to apply a numbing agent to the treatment area.
How long does dermal filler last?
The longevity of your filler depends on your skin type, lifestyle and age as well as the type and amount of product which is used. The results of your treatment may last anywhere between 8 and 18 months.
How much do dermal filler injections cost?
Prices for 1mL of dermal filler start from $499. We can also provide cost estimates on request.
Do you use injections or cannula for facial filler injections?
We use both depending on the area being treated. During your consultation, your nurse will assess your face, discuss your desired results and make a decision to use a needle or cannula. While not suitable for all injection sites, a cannula reduces the number of injections which may lead to a decrease in bruising and swelling.
What risks are involved with dermal filler treatments?
Because the active ingredient in dermal filler closely resembles the substances which occur naturally in the body, the risk of allergic reaction is minimal. Some of the risks of injectable fillers include asymmetry and bruising. All risks will be explained clearly to you during your consultation.

Dos and Don’t of Dermal Filler Treatments
Do: Always receive dermal fillers from reputed practitioners
The craft of facial rejuvenation using filler injections requires extensive skill for the best results. You should always choose an experienced practitioner. Searching for a skilled practitioner can be a bit tiring at times, but it’s worth the hassle. When choosing a practitioner, always look online for before and after photos of their work with dermal fillers. Seeing results in other patients can be helpful in you deciding if you want to undergo dermal filler injection from the practitioner. If you don’t like the outcome in other patients, you likely won’t like it on yourself. Search for the best practitioner whose results you like the most.
Don’t: Overdo it!
Dermal fillers can be used effectively to balance the face. This is where you need a skilled and reputed practitioner as choosing the right amount of filler is a skill. The right amount of filler can bring a world of change to your face, but using more or less of the filler can result in undesired results. A skilled and experienced practitioner such as a registered nurse will always be able to advise how much filler is recommended, and how much is too much. Putting too much filler in the face can make you appear ‘fake’, strange, out of proportion, and it can also stretch the sign which can accelerate signs of ageing.
Do: Always plan in advance
Never rush your decision of undergoing an injectables procedure. Meticulous planning can help you get the desired treatment and help you choose the correct treatment options. Planning in advance also helps reduce anxiety associated with the procedure. If you are planning to inject fillers before a specific big event, consider planning two to three weeks in advance to look at your best at the time of the event.
Don’t: Inject dermal fillers if you are pregnant
Dermal fillers are made of chemical called hyaluronic acids. There have been no studies yet regarding these injectables as unsafe however it is advisable that you do not undergo injectable treatments whilst pregnant.
Do: Always follow pre and post-treatment advice
Your practitioner will give you a specific list of pre and post-treatment instructions that need to be strictly followed before and after the procedure for best results and to minimise risks.
